Colby Moore and Plymouth meet a familiar foe for the title

As we do for the semifinal games in basketball, we hand over the championship game previews to the people who know these teams better than anyone; the opposing coaches from their division.

We asked three Division II coaches to break down Saturday’s championship match-up between Plymouth & Bow using blind quotes.

We will bring you all the highlights of Saturday’s title game plus the post-game interview on the field with the entire team….if Plymouth wins they may even (finally) celebrate with us.

Today’s scouting report is being brought you by Concord Orthopaedics, the official sponsor of Bow football.

We asked opposing coaches to break down Plymouth vs Bow II

“I think Bow is going to play much better against Plymouth than they did the first time around,” predicted one coach. “Bow is so well prepared by their coaching staff that if they get a second shot at you they’re usually tough to beat.”

“Bow makes very smart in-game adjustments and they have the kind of physical defense you need to contain Garrett Macomber. Their linebacker Ben Kimball is really good and offensively they will run plays in the fourth quarter that you haven’t seen for the first three quarters.”

Another Division II playoff coach thinks one Plymouth player, in particular, will give Bow fits. “Nolan Farina is the key guy to watch on Saturday. His speed is really tough to duplicate in practice and in some ways he is tougher to defend than Macomber.”

“Bow has a big/tough defense, so I think they can control Macomber running between the tackles but Farina running the jet sweep is going to be very tough for Bow to handle.”

Another coach also talked about how difficult it is to defend Plymouth. “When we played them we realized very quickly that they were going to put the ball where the best match-up was for them. To stop Macomber you need to dedicate a couple of guys to make sure he doesn’t have a big running lane to go through, but what do you do when they run the jet sweep or wide dive with Farina?”

“And then what do you do with Jordan Docen, their big receiver? Do you double team him or put your biggest guy in the secondary on him? Well, that takes away an extra tackler or maybe your best tackler in the secondary. There are just a lot of weapons to account for. Plymouth doesn’t run a ton of different plays they just really execute the ones they do run.”

We asked the coaches how Bow matches up with the undefeated Bobcats. “Bow is a very physical football team, not very fast though. I think in Windham and Hanover they played two very similar teams in that they weren’t that fast either but very big & physical. Bow matched up very well with those two teams and so I wasn’t really shocked when they knocked off Hanover. I think St Thomas would have been a tough match-up for Bow with their speed.”

“Bow has to be able to run the football to win because I just think (Matt) Harkins will have trouble moving the ball if he is throwing it 20 times. Bow likes to run most of their plays to the left side of the line so that is an area to watch on Saturday.”

Another coach talked about the Plymouth defense. “Hands down the most athletic defense we saw all year. Going into the game with Plymouth I felt like they might be the best team in the division, leaving the game there was absolutely no doubt in my mind they were the best team in our division.”

So who comes out on top Saturday?

“I think Plymouth repeats. It won’t be a blowout but never in doubt either.”

“I think Bow beats them in a very close game. I just think they are about to run the table through the playoffs and they’ll be ready to knock Plymouth off.”

“Plymouth. I think it will be a similar result to the St Thomas win, where it’s close but maybe a two score difference at the end.”
