Figure Skating and Bowling? Must be the Top 10

This is now a perfect 10, I guess.

Strap in kids, it's the Winter edition of the Top 10. These are the things that were rattling around in the mind of Justin McIsaac this week....

10. PEMBROKE COULDN’T HIT THE OCEAN FROM A BOAT, AND THEN THEY COULDN’T MISS

7 FG’s in the first half vs Brady, and a 17 point deficit. 21/26 from the field including 12/13 from beyond the 3 point line in the 2nd half, en route to an 80-67 win. One of the more stunning turnarounds I’ve seen in a single game. Pembroke scored 61 points in the 2nd half. SIXTY ONE! In 16 minutes of play! That’s banana land. Sean Menard hit 6 threes in the 2nd half (it felt like 60).  Pembroke really needed the W too, D2 is crowded as all get out. They could sneak into the top 4, or drop far enough to be on the road for round 1. It’s that crazy in D2 this year.

9. THE BEDFORD GIRLS ARE NOT MESSING AROUND ON DEFENSE

First Q of Thursday night’s game, Memorial is up on unbeaten Bedford 10-5, and Bedford Coach Sue Thomas called a timeout. After that, Memorial had trouble just setting up their offense, because the Bulldogs were IN. THEIR. JERSEYS. Stifling D from Bedford lead to a big win, and Bedford spreads it around like crazy on Offense. Not one player averages double digits in scoring, but they’re running teams out of the gym. An impressive performance.

8. HOW THE HELL ARE THEY SCORING THIS TEAM FIGURING SKATING EVENT?

I just watched a Canadian guy fall about 12 times in 3 minutes, followed by NBC going to 12 minutes of commercials, followed by the Canadian guy getting a huge score, followed by 17 more minutes of commercials. Did they change the rules from 4 years ago? I thought falling in figure skating was bad?

7. THE WEIRD GAME MY DAUGHTER WANTED TO PLAY ON HER COMPUTER

It’s called Yandere Simulator, and it’s MESSED UP. Here’s a description of the game, right from the website:

Yandere Simulator is a stealth game about stalking a boy and secretly eliminating any girl who has a crush on him, while maintaining the image of an innocent schoolgirl.

WHAT THE HELL. There’s a 2000% chance my daughter is a secret serial killer, right? Or she’s at least on the way? Also, is this better or worse than playing Call of Duty? I have so many questions…

6. JAYDEN TORRES ALMOST HUNG A 50 BURGER

47 points! That would be a new school record, previously held by…. Jayden Torres. Also the highest total in D3 this year. All this after Dave wrote what I thought was a very good examination of where to slot players that are very talented, but on struggling teams. Did Jayden have that article printed out and stuffed in his back pocket? You can’t prove to me that he didn’t.

5. THAT KID NAMED RED THAT WON A GOLD MEDAL IN SNOWBOARDING

First of all, if you’re named Red, you should be a 56 year old man. That’s just science. But that aside, seeing a 17 year old on the podium with a gold medal made me feel old, and then seeing that he looked even younger than my 14 year old made me feel EVEN older, and then seeing that he was born in 2000 made me feel OLDEST. 2000 was like 3 weeks ago, right?

4. AHNA MCKUSKER MESSED AROUND AND GOT A TRIPLE DOUBLE

24 points, 21 boards, and 12 blocks. TWELVE BLOCKS! Some teams don’t get that in a season. And Oh By The Way, this came against 13-1 Hollis Brookline.  At 6-8 Coe-Brown is fighting for it’s playoff life, but if they can get a few more performances like Ahna, they’ll get into the tournament.

3. IF YOU DIDN’T TEAR UP DURING THE PAUL PIERCE NUMBER RETIREMENT, THEN GTFO

What a heartfelt speech from The Truth, who gave the Celtics everything you could hope for and more during his time in Boston. There were ups and downs in the early part of PP’s career, but once he figured it out, man did he ever figure it out. There was nothing like watching him get Old Man Ugly Buckets time and time again, hitting that fadeaway that the opponent knew was coming, but couldn’t stop.  Congrats to The Truth!

2. I’M ALREADY SPENDING THE MONEY CAMERON MCISAAC WILL MAKE ON THE PBA TOUR

PBA being “Professional Bowlers Association”, as Young McIsaac shot a 235 on Thursday – he’s in 8th grade for Pete’s sake! The Spaulding High School Bowling team is already a wagon this year, sitting in 3rd place, ready to strike for a state championship. Once they get Cam on the squad? DYNASTY CITY BABY. (Am I over-reacting? Probably. WHATEVER, THAT PBA MONEY IS GONE ALREADY BABY.)

1. CODY GRAHAM IS THE TOP CLIPPER

Cody Graham is now the leading scorer in Portsmouth High history, passing John Mulvey’s 1299 in a double OT win over Exeter. Cody’s also the leading passer in Portsmouth football history, and if you take a look back just a recent history, PHS has had some pretty damn good QB’s (Mike Fransoso, Nate Jones, Donovan Phanor, Billy Hartman, just to name a few). Cody’s not the biggest, or the fastest kid you ever met, but he’s clutch as hell, and a great kid. I couldn’t be happier for him.

ALSO RECEIVING VOTES: Does anyone want the #1 spot in the Power Index?, I’m going to be first in line for Incredibles 2 and I don’t care what you think about that, Congrats to UNH Hockey Coach Dick Umile after a fun Coach Umile weekend, I love it when the Luge announcers lose their mind after a small mistake
