The ASG Intros might still be going on...

Wrap it up, Kevin.

Strap in kids, it's the Winter edition of the Top 10. These are the things that were rattling around in the mind of Justin McIsaac this week....

10. JOE SIMPSON IS STILL VERY GOOD AT BASKETBALL

I got a chance to call the Yankee Small Conference College basketball semi finals this weekend at NHTI, and Dave got a chance to check out NHTI’s Quarterfinal game on Friday night. Turns out Joe Simpson can still ball. He was named Tournament MVP after NHTI’s win over Vermont Tech, but my favorite part of the weekend was seeing Joe hear it from some of the VTI fans, then hit a 3 on the next trip down the floor, and seeing him Shoot The Arrow in their general direction. NHTI moves on to the USCAA tournament in Pennsylvania (as did Defending Women’s champ Central Maine CC).

9. TALKING TO DANNY BRYSON WITH THE MATT REGAN VOICE

Joe’s HS Coach Danny Bryson was at the semi-final on Saturday, and after losing to BG on Friday night in OT, he was a good sport as I busted out my Coach Regan imitation to ask him what happened on Friday. A good win for BG, a tough loss for Memorial, and a miracle that Coach Bryson didn’t clothesline me.

8. THE DAYTONA 500

Lol just kidding I didn’t watch that.

7. THE GERMAN BOBSLED THAT CRASHED BUT IS SOMEHOW IN FIRST PLACE

Go big or go home, The Germans are not here to lose. And if that means Nico Walther has to flip his damn sled to take the lead after 2 runs, then so be it. Bobsled and Luge are awesome as it is, but I think if they widen the track and have two bobsleds race each other it’d be even more fire.

6. KEVIN HART’S INTROS FOR THE ALL STAR GAME

Here’s an idea – just have one of the normal PA guys do the intros. And don’t have the intros last 3 days. And make the uniforms better than boring ass black and white. Good grief…

5. DON’T LOOK NOW, BUT HERE COMES… FARMINGTON?

That’s right, Adam Thurston’s Tigers are playing well at just the right time in D4 – They’ve won 5 of their last 6, and the one loss was a buzzer beating heartbreaker to Derryfield.  The Tigers get another crack at DS tonight, and while I’m not saying you should go bet your mortgage on FHS to win the whole thing, I’m not sure I’d want to play them in the first round.

4. YOU BETTER NOT TAKE A NIGHT OFF IN D1

Ask Memorial and Bedford, who got bitten by BG and Pinkerton. And ask Winnacunnet, who got shocked at home by South earlier last week. Usually there’s a team or two on the schedule that you can look at and say “Oh they stink, we’re ok here”, and pencil in a W. Not this year. The D1 tourney is going to be the most wide open I can remember this year.

3. MILFORD AND TIMBERLANE ARE DESTINED TO SOMEHOW MEET IN THE D2 TITLE GAME…. OR LOSE IN THE FIRST ROUND

You could talk me into either. Milford just won at Pelham, after losing at Windham – in fact, of Windham’s 5 wins, 2 are over Milford. Meanwhile, The Social Media Force That Is Timberlane Basketball is like the George Costanza of D2; if everything you predict about them is wrong, then the opposite MUST be true. Thus, Timberlane will get to Durham. And Milford will join them because nothing makes sense in 2018, especially in D2.

2. D3 and D4 GIRLS PLAYOFFS GET UNDERWAY THIS WEEK

Dave’s Gilford Golden Eagles could get to SNHU in D3, Farmington and Epping are lurking in D4, where Littleton is probably the favorite, as the Crusaders are unbeaten and seem to beat everyone by 20. I don’t know much about the Conant Girl’s team, but anytime I see “Conant” and “Basketball”, I assume they’re going to be in the final 4, so punch their ticket as well.

1. HAVE A NIGHT TRAVIS ARESNAULT

First of all, I’m pretty sure I called him “Evan” like 4 times, so that’s my bad. We’re probably the only outfit in NH that KNOWS the names of Berlin and Winnacunnet players, so that mixup won’t happen anywhere else.

Arsenault came into Friday’s game averaging 4.6 ppg, so you could be forgiven for thinking  his scoring wouldn’t be a factor against Salem. 20 points later, including the game winning 3 with :30 to go, and he was a hero in Hampton. That performance (as well as 19 from Jack Schaake, and several assists) helped keep the Warriors in the running for a 1st round bye in the D1 playoffs.

ALSO RECEIVING VOTES: Spaulding v Bedford Tuesday on MOSN, Fergie’s anthem was maybe the worst ever, Kyrie rolling his eyes at Lebron’s rah-rah huddle speech at the ASG, 65 degrees on Wednesday Pete!
