Alex Cheek of Gilford-Belmont: The junior quarterback had an outstanding opener, completing 12 of 22 passes against Pembroke Academy for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns without a pick. He also ran the ball 14 times for 110 yards and 3 more scores.
Matt Crowley of Pelham: The Pythons two-way standout helped hold the Alvirne Broncos, the Division II favorites, to only 15 points. Crowley ran the ball 4 times for 16 yards against an Alvirne defense that returns 9 starters from last years Division I runner-up.
Curtis Nelson of Gilford-Belmont: The Golden Eagles receiver, set for a breakout season, got off to a big start; hauling in 6 passes for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 40-0 win over the Pembroke Spartans.
Jackson Ruelke of Gilford-Belmont: The 6’1 strong safety, who had 4 interceptions a year ago, began his junior year with another big day, intercepting a Spartans pass and helping the Golden Eagles to a shutout on the road at Pembroke.
