The Mules are going to the Championship Game

The Newmarket Mules and the Sunapee Lakers girls' softball programs met in a semi-final showdown at NHTI on Wednesday. Newmarket used a 3-run 3rd-inning to propel themselves to a lead that they'd never relinquish. They ended up winning 7-3 to make the state championship game for the first time since 2003, ending an 18-year drought.

Gia Tilton (2-4 2 Runs) hit a huge solo homerun on the second pitch she saw, to lead off scoring in the first inning for Newmarket. Kaylen Fowler (3-4) followed that up with a single, and then pinch runner Isabella Mendez (2 Runs) would later score off a single from Riley Andriski (3-4, 2 Runs, 2 RBI's). This gave Newmarket an early 2-0 lead.

Sunapee's Miah Hamm (1-2, BB) retied the game with a single swing of the bat. A huge two run shot scoring herself and Anah Durkee (2-4, 2 Runs). The game would remain tied until the third inning.

Newmarket's Gia Tilton would rebreak the tie again, scoring off a big hit from Kaylen Fowler, then hits from Riley Andriski and Anna Willerer would give the Mules a 5-3 lead. Sunapee would score once more off the bat of Molly Reed, scoring Anah Durkee. However, two insurance runs by Newmarket in the 6th would prove to be the icing on the cake of this game.

Newmarket's Kayler Fowler (7 K's) and Sunapee's Natalie Austin (4 K's) both pitched the complete 7 innings for their respective teams.
