Concord traveled to Alvirne on Tuesday night for the first round of the Division One Girls Soccer playoffs. It was a classic evenly-matched 8-seed vs 9-seed playoff matchup.
Scoring started early as Avery Fitcher netted a goal using a nifty move off a throw-in to put the Crimson Tide up early. That goal carried Concord into halftime nursing a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Paige McKinley put on a clinic in the net for Alvirne. She made multiple crucial saves which kept the lead at one score. This allowed Paige Boudrou to tie the game with a fantastic goal from outside the 18.
Strong defensive efforts from Alvirne's Jamie O'Connor, Alyssa Scharn, & Isabella Coppi helped keep the game tied. Concord's Amanda Vezina also played some stellar defense. Whitney Vaillant had a great game in the midfield as well for the Crimson Tide.
80 minutes would not prove enough as the game would go into sudden death extra time. About 4 minutes in Alvirne would be whistled for a handball in their own box which gave Concord a chance to win with a penalty kick. Avery Fitcher calmly sent the ball into the bottom right corner, advancing Concord to the next round of the playoffs.
