The defending champs pick up their first win of the season in thrilling fashion

Tuesday night featured a great game between the ConVal Cougars & the defending champion Pelham Pythons.

The first 27 minutes were scoreless as both teams battled in the high 80’s heat. Ashlyn Walsh was able to break the scoreless tie, as her penalty kick found the back of the net. This jumpstarted a rapid onslaught of goals.

Four minutes later, Haley Mathewson fired a cross that found a Pelham defender and deflected into the back of the net. A mere 20 seconds after the ensuing kickoff, a lofted thru ball found Ashlyn Walsh who buried the shot for her second goal of the night. Haley Mathewson was not done and she fired a bullet which bounced in off the top crossbar.

That 2-2 score would stand until the waning moments of the game. Lexy Brodeur lined up a corner and found Ashlyn Walsh who sank the header for the hat trick. Bella Furtado prevented the comeback attempt with a gorgeous diving save with under five minutes left.

Pelham ultimately took the game 3-2 for their first win of 2023.
