The Cougars claw back from a slow start to remain unbeaten

The Kearsarge Cougars played host to the Spartans from White Mountains Regional High School on Friday night.

Kearsarge, who sat atop our pre-season rankings for Division-III, started slow in the first quarter. White Mountains’ Ainsley Savage was stealing the show, blocking three shots right away.

Kearsarge relies on their big center, Tessa Marinello for a lot of their offense this season.

White Mountain was leading early on. Savage, guarding the paint at 6’3”, was proving to be a tough test for Marinello, who is used to having a huge height advantage over her defender.

Stellar passing from Kearsarge opened up opportunities inside for Marinello, and mid-range looks for Ava Shapiro, the team’s sharp-shooter. Shapiro ended with 10 points, Marinello, a season-high 21.

Strong performances by Savage, Ciera Challinor, Kaya Nkwen-Tamo, and Olivia Lorenz proved that the White Mountain offense is well-rounded.

Kearsarge, in just their second game, appeared fine-tuned in their passing and offensive identity.

After proving their power Friday night, they’re certainly in the mix of D-III teams to watch
