How Pete sees it after the 1st 2 weeks

Every week after I cast my ballot for the Union Leader/ESPN New Hampshire Power Poll I will reveal my personal Top 10...and why I voted that way.

1. Bedford...the Bulldogs remain in the top spot thanks to a come-from-behind 38-32 win on the road against a tough Timberlane team.  Bedford trailed by 11 entering the 4th Q and rode the arm and legs of QB Connor Robert to take home the victory.  The Bulldogs host Londonderry this Friday night.

2. Merrimack...the Tomahawks offense was in high gear from the get go in their home opener last week vs Manchester Memorial as they easily eclipsed the half century mark in a 56-14 win over the Crusaders.  Next up for Merrimack is a visit to Gill Stadium against Manchester Central.

3. Goffstown...the 2016 edition of the Grizzlies showed they can put up  points and also showed some resiliency as QB Nik Moquin led a 92 yard TD drive in the finals minutes to defeat Pinkerton 37-33 in Derry on Friday night.  Timberlane comes into Goffstown for a Saturday afternoon game this weekend and we'll have LIVE streaming video of the game on NHSportspage courtesy of the Northeast Sports Network.

4. Exeter...the biggest question mark surrounding the Blue Hawks in the early going is just how good are they?  Bill Ball's team has rolled over their 1st 2 opponents(Dover & Spaulding) by a combined 83-27 count, and it could have been a lot worse if Exeter didn't call off the dogs in the second half of each game.  0-2 Keene comes into Exeter this weekend so we might have to wait for the big rivalry game vs Winnacunnet in 2 weeks to find out the truth about the Blue Hawks.

5. Salem...largely overlooked in the preseason, the 2-0 Blue Devils have been hell on their 1st 2 opponents holding Manchester Central & Concord to a total of 20 points.  Salem has a great 1-2 punch at running back in Josh Sibanda & James Leblond to go with that hard hitting defense.

6. Windham...I got an in-person look at the Jags on Saturday vs Milford and they were certainly impressive in a 42-6 win.  This Windham team was much like recent Windham teams with an ability to run the ball right down your throat with a dominating O-Line and a bevy of capable ball carriers.  Couple that with QB Cody Potter's precision passing and the Jaguars are definitely a favorite to get back to a 3rd straight D2 Title Game.

7. Pinkerton...Brian O'Reilly has been coaching the Astros for 38 seasons.  I highly doubt they've had any games where they threw the ball for over 350 yards like they did in the loss to Goffstown last week.  And the fact they did that with their backup quarterback, sophomore Aiden Goujon after losing starter Ryan Albrecht to injury is pretty impressive.

8. Timberlane...the Owls probably feel like they let one slip away against Bedford last week.  Coach Kevin Fitzgerald won't spend too much time looking back because he knows it's a battle every week in Division 1.  I'm looking forward to seeing Jake Post & Timberlane take on Goffstown this weekend.

9. John Stark...I guess some of the other voters have backed off on their love for the Generals because they slipped out of the poll after a Top 10 appearance following Week 1.  We'll all get a better look at BC bound Drew McQuarrie & company this weekend when John Stark travels to 2-0 Lebanon to face Ryan Milliken & the Raiders in a game Jon Kesty & I will cover on video for NHSportspage.com.

10. Bishop Guertin...the BG kids busted on me a bit for picking Nashua South to beat them in Staff Picks last week when they saw me at the game the other night(I'm a proud Panther grad Class of 1988 BTW).  Of course they didn't even mention the fact I had them in my Top 10 BEFORE the game against South.  Either way this Cards team can throw the ball on you with QB Sam Raitt and playmakers like Dylan Fagan & all-name teamer Sarveen Shafian-Rad.
