Dover is in playoff contention...and they made my ballot because of it

Every week after I cast my ballot for the Union Leader/ESPN New Hampshire Power Poll I will reveal my personal Top 10...and why I voted that way.

  1. Bedford...firmly entrenched with the #1 seed in the Division 1 North/South conference playoff cluster, the 8-0 Bulldogs wrap up the regular season by traveling to Salem on Friday night.  In 2 weeks, those same teams will meet again in the postseason, this time in Bedford with much higher stakes on the line.
  2. Merrimack...ever since their opening night loss to Bedford, the Tomahawks have overwhelmed their opponents on the right arm of Justin Grassini who now sits just 2 short of the New Hampshire record for TD passes in a season.  Merrimack welcomes in Goffstown for their regular season finale on Friday...with the 2 teams set to meet again next Saturday in the playoffs.
  3. Windham...I'm looking forward to seeing the Jags in person for the 1st time since Week 2.  Windham is going for an undefeated regular season when they play at ConVal on Friday night in a game that I will be covering for NHSportspage.com.  The Jaguars are firmly entrenched in the playoffs, but It's a hugely important game for ConVal who needs a win to stay alive in the tightly contested D2 race.
  4. Goffstown...the Goffstown Grizzlies are a lot more dangerous now that Andrew Duval is back from his thumb injury and making plays on both sides of the ball.  QB Nik Moquin has quietly emerged into one of the best in the state and the defending champs are primed for a shot at back to back titles.
  5. Exeter...the Blue Hawks took control of their suspended game with BG in the second half, turning a 15-14 halftime deficit into a 29-21 win when they resumed play on Saturday afternoon.  The victory gave Exeter the top seed in D1 East/West so they're in position to play 2 home games at Bill Ball Stadium on the way to a State Championship Game appearance at UNH.
  6. Salem...tough loss at Goffstown last Saturday when the Grizzlies beat the Blue Devils 39-35 with a TD pass in the final seconds.  Josh Sibanda continued to pile up the yardage with 261 on the ground in the game and he now has over 1300 yards on the season with 20 TDs.
  7. Hanover...the only team on my ballot I haven't actually seen in person or on film yet, the Marauders improved to 8-0 with a 10-0 shutout win over Kennett last Friday.  Hanover gets their biggest test of the season to date as John Stark comes to town on Friday night fresh off a loss to Bow.
  8. Dover...the Green Wave just keep on winning football games...even if this time it took them a couple days to get it done in a 30-14 suspended game win over Winnacunnet on Friday night/Monday afternoon.  Depending on what happens in the BG/North game on Friday night, that likely sets up a winner is in, loser is out regular season finale showdown Saturday afternoon in Nashua with South at Stellos Stadium.
  9. Bow...the Falcons got the win they needed to show the state they belong in the discussion of Division 2 Championship contenders when they went into Weare and knocked John Stark from the ranks of the unbeaten last Saturday night.  That win helped Bow clinch a playoff spot ahead of their regular season finale against Lebanon this Saturday.
  10. Monadnock...the Huskies upped their record to 7-0 on the season with a 28-0 win on the road at Newport last weekend.  The 4 touchdown shutout was the 2nd closest game Monadnock has played all season besides a 27-12 win over Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough back on September 30th.
