Pinkerton is Pete's new Number 1

Pete Tarrier, supporting a small school football teams' worthy place in the Top 10

We're 4 weeks into the New Hampshire High School Football schedule and things are starting to take shape as we head to the halfway point of the season.  Every week in this spot, we give you the latest Union Leader High School Football Power Poll as voted on by 6 members of the local media including our own Pete Tarrier.  Here's the latest Power Poll after Week 4...see below that for how Pete voted.

After Week 4

The top 10 high school football teams in New Hampshire, with record, first-place votes/points in parentheses, plus last week’s rankings:

1. Pinkerton, 4-0 (6/60) 1st

2. Bedford, 4-0 (53) 2nd

3. Winnacunnet, 4-0 (49) 3rd

4. Plymouth, 4-0 (38) 6th

5. Londonderry, 3-1 (33)            5th

6. Nashua North, 3-1 (28) 9th

7. Salem, 3-1 (25)                      7th

8. Central, 3-1 (22)                      4th

9. Exeter, 2-2 (12)                          NR

10. Merrimack, 3-1 (5) NR

Others receiving votes: Hanover, 4-0 (3), 10th; Campbell, 3-0 (1), NR; St. Thomas Aquinas, 4-0 (1), NR

HERE'S HOW PETE TARRIER VOTED...and why...

  1. Pinkerton...I gave the Astros the nod as my number 1 team this week, replacing Winnacunnet who I had in 1st place the 1st few weeks.  Pinkerton's Week 3 win over Exeter and the convincing win over Londonderry last Friday pushed the Astros to the top of my ballot.
  2. Bedford...the Bulldogs have probably been the most dominant of all the teams so far outscoring their opponents 175-17 thru 4 games.  Bedford gets a good test when Manchester Central comes in on Friday night.
  3. Winnacunnet...yes, I did move Winnacunnet down 2 spots on my ballot from 1st to 3rd this week, but it's more about how well Pinkerton & Bedford have played while the Warriors are battling thru some injuries to key guys.
  4. Londonderry...lots of people in Lancer land really felt this might be the year Londonderry finally breaks the Pinkerton stranglehold on the storied rivalry.  It didn't work out for them on Friday night so if it does happen this year it will have to wait until a 2nd meeting in the playoffs.
  5. Salem...the Blue Devils get their crack at Pinkerton this weekend.  Salem won the regular season meeting with the Astros last year before Pinkerton returned the favor by winning in Salem in the Division 1 Semifinals.
  6. Exeter...written off for dead by the entire NHSportspage staff who all picked Windham to beat the Blue Hawks last Friday night, Exeter is back in the playoff hunt thanks to a 10-6 win over the Jags and takes a 2-2 record into their rivalry game in Hampton on Saturday against Winnacunnet.
  7. Plymouth...coach Chris Sanborn keeps telling everyone to pump the brakes on all the talk about a Plymouth 3-peat in Division 2...and then his team keeps on pounding the opposition week after week.  BIG test on the road this Saturday as the Bobcats take on 4-0 St. Thomas in a game we will cover on video from the seacoast.
  8. Nashua North...the Titans enter my Top 10 fresh off their 34-27 shootout win over Manchester Central on Friday night.  North plays their rivalry game against Nashua South this weekend and a win can put them in a really good spot in the Western conference playoff race.
  9. Manchester Central...after the loss to North, it's back to back tough games for now 3-1 Central as they play in Bedford on Friday.  5 years ago, the Little Green surprised the Bulldogs on the final night of the regular season to snag the last remaining playoff spot.  Coach Ryan Ray's team would love to pull the upset once again.
  10. Campbell...so much for the other voters showing D3 power Campbell some love on their ballots.  Last week 3 of us had Campbell listed in their Top 10, but after yet another dominating win(48-27 at Laconia) on Friday, I am now the ONLY voter who has the Cougars on his ballot.  What gives?
