"What do you mean I can't park here?!?!"
YEAH THAT’S RIGHT – You waited all Spring and Summer, and finally, the only reason for getting out of bed early in the week is back: Justin McIsaac’s Top 10!
The Top 10 is brought to you by TJ’S in Portsmouth! My absolute favorite spot in Portsmouth to catch a game. Tell Bethany that McIsaac sent you.
10. GET USED TO THIS
Bedford and Pinkerton playing in the D1 finals- that’s a matchup we’ve seen twice, and you’re going to see it more often than not, is my prediction. Pinkerton has only missed the finals twice since 2004- in 2009, and in 2015. Bedford just won their 2nd D1 title, and had another appearance in 2014 (when they lost to, of course, Pinkerton). You’ll get a Winnacunnet or a Goffstown here or there in the future, but for the most part, it’s going to be one or both of these teams with a reservation in Durham every year. Speaking of Bedford…
9. IT WAS THE BULLDOGS WORLD AND THE REST OF D1 WAS JUST LIVING IN IT
Wire to wire, and the only close one came in the final game of the season (if you want to call 14 points close). Pinkerton made it hairy for a bit for the Bulldogs, cashing in on Bulldog turnovers, but in the end it was too much running, and too much D from Bedford that made the difference. Congrats to Bedford!
8. THE STAFF AT WILDCAT STADIUM THAT WORKED ALL DAY
From SID Brandon Poli, to “The voice of God” Sherm Chester (and his spotter Sam “Bam” Bruno), and everyone else on the UNH staff, when I got off the UNH bus late in the 2nd quarter of the D1 final, you could tell they were all ready for a nap. But they powered through and made it a great day for the kids, coaches, and parents of the HS teams who worked so hard to get to Durham.
7. JEN CHICK RUTH SHOULD BE ON YOUR LIST, MA’AM
Listen, I don’t know who it was that told “The Franchise” that she couldn’t park behind the stadium on Saturday morning (while Jen was battling through a cold and the fact that she doesn’t sleep anymore thanks to being a new parent), but YOU DON’T MESS WITH THE FRANCHISE. From here on out, assume Jen is on any list she says that she is. YOU GOT THAT?!?!
6. KYLE GORA GOT HIS DAVID PATTEN ON
Rushing, Receiving, and Passing TD’s for the talented Alvirne QB in the title game is no small feat. Ultimately it wasn’t enough for the Broncos, but there’s more big things to come for Gora and the Broncos. (Yes, I know LaDanian Tomlinson did this too, but LT was a whiner)
5. SPEAKING OF ALVIRNE, WHAT A RUN
From a team that had never won a playoff game, to a team that lead Plymouth at the half of the game that the Bobcats have owned the last two years, that is quite a showing for Tarek Rothe and his crew. Broncos fans should be proud.
4. AN INAUSPICIOUS START, FOLLOWED BY AN INVAULABLE PERFORMANCE
Owen Brickley coughed up the pumpkin on the opening kickoff and immediately the Bobcats were behind the 8-ball, but Owen bounced back to score what proved to be the game winning score to give Plymouth 27 straight wins and 3 straight titles. Pat Malm and Brickley were true workhorses, carrying the ball a combined 54 times for 262 yards to keep the D2 title in the Land of Lenahan. How many more titles before it becomes the land of Sanborn?!?!
3. CONGRATS TO THE TITANS FOR WINNING THE SUPERBOWL LAST WEEK
At least that’s what you would’ve thought listening to Titan players after beating up New England Tennessee followed that up by getting their lunch money taken away by the Colts 38-10 today. But that doesn’t count since they won the Lombardi trophy last week, right?
2. ROUND 3 NEXT YEAR?
Campbell and Monadnock have now met in 2 straight finals, and the combined score in those two games is Campell 24 Monadnock 23 (somehow Campbell has scored exactly 12 points in both games). After a thrilling win from the Huskies this time around, can we get a rubber match next year?
1. ISAAC JASINSKI NEVER HAS TO BUY LUNCH IN SWANZEY AGAIN
The first FG of his HS career was a historic kick, a 27 yard FG to win the D3 title- that’s the stuff dreams are made of! Jasinski had a PAT blocked earlier in the game but nailed the game winner with 1 second left on the clock to give the Huskies the title. (BTW, shout out to the ref who threw a 15 yard flag on Monadnock for celebrating that FG. If there’s one thing we can’t have in sports, it’s kids celebrating a championship winning kick. I’m here to see penalties, not joy)
Jasinski’s name will forever be remembered in Monadnock lore, as Tim Santaw and the gang brought home the hardware.
ALSO RECEIVING VOTES: Seriously try to imagine if Monadnock lost because they had to kickoff from the 25 after that flag, 4-7 was a bummer for UNH but they’ll be back, Pats being off is the worst thing in the world, 3 undefeated dances for Pete, again.
