It’s back! The Winter edition of the Top 10 is here. The listicle you can’t live without. Just remember– this is a STATE WEBSITE and I expect you to send me ideas for this list. YOU GOT THAT?!?!?!
The Top 10 is brought to you by TJ’S in Portsmouth! My absolute favorite spot in Portsmouth to catch a game. Tell Bethany that McIsaac sent you.
10. WHATEVER IS GOING ON IN YOUR LIFE, IT COULD BE WORSE: YOU COULD BE CODY PARKEY
I know Cody has like 5 million guaranteed coming to him, so he can afford to cry himself to sleep on a pillow made of money, but BRUH. Getting death threats over a missed FG (that was tipped) doesn’t seem like the way I would want to spend January.
9. TY VITKO IS A MAN POSSESSED
The son of Jen Chick-Ruth (and defending Seacoast Champ) is seeing every junk defense ever invented- and still putting up 30 a game for the Dover High Greenwave. It’s one thing to drop 30 in a game, it’s quite another to do it when everyone on the other team is trying to stop you. Vitko and Dover will face a couple of tough defensive teams this week in Salem and Merrimack, so we’ll see what happens, but my man has been en fuego.
8. KINDA SURPRISED WE AREN’T DOING 24 HOURS OF LIVE COVERAGE LEADING UP TO BELMONT V GILFORD
The (other) Red Raiders are 5-1, Dave’s Alma Mater is 2-2, and they’re staring down at schedule of @ Belmont, v Monadnock, @ Somersworth, v Berlin, and @ Campbell, so the Golden Eagles need this one. I believe Haley will be at this one, we’ll see how long the game goes before someone has to politely ask Dave to stop throwing things at Jim Cilley.
7. IT’S THE 2ND WEEK OF JANUARY AND SOMEHOW LITTLETON AND PITTSFIELD HAVE EACH PLAYED 7 GAMES
And some D1 teams have played like 3. I know the season starts a little earlier, but SHEESH. We’re almost half way through the D4 season!
6. DUDE, KEENE COULD BE 6-0 WHEN THEY PLAY AT WINNACUNNET
I’m not saying the Blackbirds are GOING to beat Trinity, Bedford, and BG, but it’s not impossible! Keene has raced out to a 3-0 start, and things could be happening this season for a KHS squad that has struggled over the last few year. Imagine if you had to drive to Keene for a Q-Final game? I know it’s early, but Keene has to be excited about what they’re seeing
5. THE ‘WE READY… WE REAAAADDDDYYYYYY…. WEEEEEEEEEE REAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY…. FOR Y’ALL……’ COMMERCIAL
I saw this commercial 56749653419845163 times this weekend watching football. I don’t ever, EVER, need to see it again. I don’t even know what this commercial is for. Bury it at the bottom of the ocean.
4. DANTE MCKENNY TO ARIE BREAKFIELD
By now you’ve seen the Alley-Oop in Spaulding’s win over Central Friday night, courtesy of Jen Chick-Ruth’s twitter, complete with your boy here going nuts. I feel like we’ve seen an uptick in alley-oops over the past few years, but we still need more. Make sure you send any and all videos of your team throwing down an oop to us, even in practice, and we’ll give them their proper due.
3. BAMA IS GOING TO WIN AGAIN TONIGHT, DAMMIT
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be rooting for Clemson. But somehow, over the past few years, Nick Saban discovered that his offense is allowed to pass the ball, and the results have been devastating. My prediction tonight is Bama 45, Clemson 38. I hope I’m wrong. Let’s go Tigers.
2. D2 IS SHAPING UP TO BE THE MOST FUN TOURNAMENT
Right now there’s 4 unbeaten teams, and 6 with just one loss- It’s going to be Thunderdome once that tourney gets going. I make the joke every year, but this could be the year that a team getting the flu at the wrong time and maybe losing some games they shouldn’t, and having to go on the road for a Q-Final game, could decide who ends up in Durham.
1. THE UNSTOPPABLE JUGGERNAUT KNOWN AS THE SPAULDING BOWLING TEAM
Oh, you thought I was obnoxious about Spaulding sports before (You’re, right, I was)? IT’S ABOUT TO GET 10 TIMES WORSE NOW THAT MY KID IS ON A TEAM! Lead by Senior Ashley Gould, and Junior Xavier Bamford (also with Freshman Cameron McIsaac as part of a killer varsity squad), Spaulding knocked off #3 Merrimack and #1 Keene Saturday at Dover Bowl, to stay unbeaten in match play. Both times, Spaulding lost Game 1 of the best of 3, but RALLIED LIKE CHAMPIONS to come back and win. High School Bowling, as it turns out, is a BLAST to watch. Ask Lisbon hoops Coach Sam Natti, who has been blowing up my phone with bowling questions for two straight weeks now.
If your school has a bowling team, get out and support them – just steer clear of the Spaulding parent going a little too nuts, looking like he lost one steel cage match too many.
ALSO RECEIVING VOTES: Londonderry v Spaulding might be the game of the week, Exeter v Winnacunnet had one of the best games ever a few years back and this years game could be better, Sue Thomas got a raw deal in my opinion, Pats by 10 over the Chargers is the pick
